As a new chapter in Left Bend’s evolution, our 2022 harvest will be sourced primarily from Redwood Grade Vineyard, which was developed and is farmed by Left Bend’s co-owner, Richard Hanke. The vineyard, with its breathtaking views and towering redwoods, sits high on the Pacific-facing slope of Mount Madonna, at an elevation of 1,500 feet.
We invite you to visit Redwood Grade Vineyard on Saturdays between April and October. Richard and his Jack Russell pup, Hunter, will show you around the stunning property while you enjoy the latest Left Bend wines and magnificent views of Monterey Bay. Redwood Grade is planted on well-drained rocky and sandy soil derived from weathered sandstone. The sloped, rocky terrain of the Santa Cruz Mountains stresses the vines and reduces yields to produce fruit with intense flavor and concentration.
Varietals from this estate vineyard include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah, which are typical of this Santa Cruz Mountains subregion, and a few others that have flourished in nearby vineyards, including Riesling, Cabernet Franc and Tempranillo.
